Local SEO is the version of optimization that positions your business for searches with local intent — "dentist Podgorica", "apartments Budva center", "cafe near me". For businesses that serve specific cities or neighborhoods, local SEO is usually more important than general SEO.
Three pillars of local SEO
- Google Business Profile. The profile that appears in the Map Pack (three Maps results at the top). Strongest local ranking signal.
- On-page localization. Site content that mentions your city, neighborhood, street — combined with industry keywords. "Dentist Podgorica, clinic on Bulevar" is more precise than just "dentist".
- Citations and NAP consistency. Name-address-phone must be identical across site, GBP, local directories and social. Google uses this as a "is this business real" signal.
Which keywords to target
The biggest mistake local businesses make is going after generic terms — "lawyer", "dentist", "web design" — competing with the whole world. The right approach is to start with local modifiers and expand gradually.
Industry + street/neighborhood: "dentist Bulevar Podgorica", "cafe Stari Aerodrom".
Industry + city: "dentist Podgorica", "lawyer Budva", "web design Nikšić".
Industry + country: "dentist Montenegro", "lawyer Montenegro". Targeted only later.
Action plan
- Optimize Google Business Profile — every field filled, 10+ photos, regular posts, review system.
- Set up location pages if you serve multiple cities (e.g. /services/podgorica, /services/budva) with localized content.
- LocalBusiness schema markup on every relevant page.
- Submit the site to local directories with consistent NAP.
- Review collection strategy — direct link, QR code, email follow-up.

How long until SEO shows results
For low/medium-competition local searches, first movement is visible in 4–8 weeks. For more competitive terms (e.g. "apartments Budva" or "dentist Podgorica"), real results in 3–6 months. Anyone who isn't planning two months of work shouldn't expect results in two months.
